The Rainbow Centre is pleased to announce that yesterday, Folkestone and Hythe District Council, gave the green light for the conversion of a Folkestone hotel into accommodation for local people experiencing homelessness.
Dr Peter Le Feuvre, the Chair of Trustees, confirmed that the charity has exciting plans to develop the property, which has been unused for two years, for a new purpose. “The accommodation will provide both emergency and supported housing, for which there is an urgent need within the town.”
On any night, there are on average 25 people sleeping rough in the centre of Folkestone. The staff that run Rainbow Centre’s Homeless Support Service know just how devastating homelessness can be for an individual. Within a few weeks, life on the streets can have a devastating psychological and physical impact.
“With this project”, Dr Le Feuvre added, “we hope to identify people before they spiral further in to a life of precarity, and to offer a long-term solution to homelessness in our community.”
