Shepway Foodbank

How we can help

We know that crisis can strike anyone and we also understand how difficult it can be to ask for help. We are part of a nationwide network of Foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to people from the Folkestone & Hythe District who are referred to us in crisis.

Anyone can reach crisis point. We’re here to help.

How does it work?

1 Referral Agency

In order to provide the most appropriate help for the circumstances of your situation, we work with local agencies. If they feel you are struggling to put food on the table, they will issue you with a foodbank voucher.

The local agency can also provide long term support if needed to help address some of the issues behind the reasons for your crisis. Citizens Advice, schools, and health professionals are just some of those who can refer people to our Foodbank.

If you are in crisis but are not currently working with a support agency who can refer you, please contact our Foodbank Manager directly on 07913 573403 to see if we are able to help.

2 Food Voucher

When you contact a referral agency they will take some basic details from you to complete the voucher. This will help them to identify the cause of your crisis and offer practical guidance. It also means we are able to prepare suitable emergency food for the right number of people. Please let the referrer know if you have any allergies or special dietary requirements and they can note this on the voucher.

All our vouchers are now digital so, once issued, they are automatically sent to the Foodbank. Please note: you will not receive a physical voucher.

3 Food Parcel

We are currently running a non-contact home delivery service on Tuesdays & Fridays while our Foodbank Centres are closed.

Once we receive your voucher, we will make up your food parcel, accommodating your dietary requirements wherever possible, and this will be delivered to you on the next delivery day.

Can you help?

Over 90% of the food we distribute is donated by the public – that’s why your food donations are absolutely vital to our ability to give everyone referred to us a balanced and nutritious three-day supply of food.

If you would like to donate food to Shepway Foodbank you can visit our Foodbank website to find a list of foodstuffs we currently need as well as a list of where our donation points are located or donate to us using the Spareable app.

The Shepway Foodbank is run by local people for local people – we rely on the community’s support to ensure we can continue to stop people going hungry. Can you invest in the future of our project and help us provide much-needed support to people in crisis in our community?

If you can donate money or time, please call the Rainbow Centre on 01303 850733 to discuss ways in which you can help.

“The volunteers were fantastic, offering a chat and a shoulder to cry on. I suffer from depression as well and without the Foodbank I don’t think I would be here today.”Richard

“The emotional support was almost as good as the food. It was just such a relief to finally speak to someone who cared and genuinely wanted to help. They gave us hope.”Suzanne
