We are pleased to announce that we are reopening the Face to Face Homeless Support Service on Tuesday 16 June.
Although our Homeless Support Service has been running throughout the pandemic, we have been doing this remotely by phone, this has worked really well we are keen to take the first step in getting the physical service up and running again. The whole team have been working hard to get the necessary measures and safeguards in place to enable this to happen. Some isolation and shielding restrictions remain in place for some of our staff and volunteers and this will, of course, impact the steps we take and the parts of the service we can reinstate.
Initially, we will be opening twice a week on Tuesday and Friday mornings 10am – 1pm, this will be a ‘stripped-down’ service offering pre-arranged appointments for existing clients.
The meeting area will be restricted to one client at a time. We will also be able to issue Foodbank vouchers to our existing clients through this appointment service, and post can be collected during our opening times, but this will take place at the front door, as it has been doing every Friday during the pandemic.
This will be in addition to the continuation of remote working with clients via the phone. New clients can be referred to us by partner agencies or can self-refer via the phone so we can assess what help we may be able to offer them and we will also run a limited service for washing clothes, but turnaround times will be longer than usual due to quarantining of clothes before they can be handled by staff and volunteers.
Unfortunately, at present, we are unable to offer refreshments, shower facilities or Thursday social club, and we are also unable to take clothing donations at the centre although you can phone our Charity Shop about these. We hope to be able to expand the service more in the weeks to come as we all get used to the ‘new normal’ our whole community is learning to operate in.
We look forward to being able to welcome our clients back into the centre and see some of our wonderful volunteers who are able to return. We are also pleased that many of our (just as wonderful) volunteers are making the right choices for their circumstances and staying at home where this is sensible & necessary. We will, of course, continue to work with all our partner agencies and the Folkestone Community Hub as we have been doing throughout the pandemic.
