“As Chair of the Folkestone Rainbow Centre, I am delighted to be able to announce the appointment of Mary Stredwick as our new Chief Executive. She will succeed Ali Chambers at Easter when Ali leaves to become part of the senior staff team of the Mission Aviation Fellowship.
Mary Muchena, as she then was, was born and grew up in Zimbabwe where she took a first degree in agricultural economics. She subsequently gained a PhD in the same subject at Reading University. Over the years she has acquired a wealth of experience working in this country and overseas for international aid agencies and UK charities. This has included time with the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation in Rome. opening a London Office for Pump Aid and supporting particular projects in Zambia, Tanzania and Kosovo.
Mary has had a connection with Folkestone since the 1990s and has worked in East Kent in recent years, first as international manager for Canterbury College and, most recently, as Manager for a local charity , ‘Caring for All Together on Romney Marsh (CARM).’
She has served as a school governor at one of the local primary schools and has been a governor of Folkestone School for Girls since 2016. A committed Christian who attends Folkestone Life Church, Mary is passionate about sharing her faith with others.
Mary says “I am delighted to be joining the Rainbow Centre as I believe that it is indeed a charity doing great work with the potential to do more in the future. I look forward to working with clients, volunteers and the Folkestone Churches and community stakeholders; together we can be a strong force for good!”
