A message from the CEO

These are strange times and we are all dealing with this current crisis in the best way that we can.  At the Rainbow Centre, we are working hard to try and maintain some of our services so that we can continue to meet the needs of the most vulnerable in our community, so I wanted to take the opportunity to give you a few details on how we are responding in the current time.

Homeless Support Service

John Burgess and the Homeless Support team are now operating a telephone triage service which clients can phone in order to receive telephone advice.  Please call 07841 033142 for HSS and General Enquiries

Foodbank

Debbie Morris, who has been in post as the Foodbank Manager for just three weeks, is working hard to keep the Foodbank and Warehouse running.  Currently, the distribution centres are opening at the usual times:

Folkestone Methodist Church: Tuesday and Friday 14.00 – 15.30

New Romney Christian Centre: Tuesday 17.30 – 19.00

Hardy Hall, Lydd:  Friday 18.30 – 19.30

The phone number for Shepway Foodbank is 07913 573403

FoodStop

This will continue to go out on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at the current locations, although the team are offering a limited choice of food.

Unfortunately, we have had to shut the Rainbow Shop until further notice, and we made the difficult decision to stop our Contact sessions for the foreseeable future.   I would like to thank Sue Mitcheson, the Shop Manager and Lorraine Bryant for all their hard work.

I am incredibly grateful for the way which the team have all responded over the past week.  It has been challenging for all of us, and we are adjusting and learning on a day to day basis, but I’m very proud of how everyone has played their part and worked together.

I would also like to pay tribute to our teams of volunteers.  They remain the backbone of our work, and it’s at times like these when they really come into the forefront of our service delivery.  Without the volunteer teams in Foodbank, in the Warehouse and in FoodStop, we simply couldn’t continue.  The Trustees of the Rainbow Centre, who are also volunteers, have been so supportive to me personally and I value their guidance and wisdom.  Theresa Fowler, our Volunteer Coordinator has been working hard to make sure that the services have the correct level of volunteers to allow them to still function and I thank her for her invaluable contribution.

Finally, I would l like to say thank you to the wider community.  Your donations , your love and your prayers are carrying us through this testing time and we are so grateful to you all.  We are all in this together, and together we shall emerge stronger.

Do please stay safe and well.
