Shepway Foodbank

How we can help

We know that crisis can strike anyone and we also understand how difficult it can be to think about walking through a Foodbank door. That’s why our Foodbank volunteers aim to welcome everyone who comes to the Foodbank with compassion, kindness and a listening ear.

We are part of a nationwide network of Foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to people from Shepway who are referred to us in crisis.

Seek Referral

The Shepway Foodbank works with a range of local agencies. Citizens Advice, schools and health professionals are just some of those who can refer people to our Foodbank by issuing them with a Foodbank voucher, if appropriate.

Important: The Shepway Foodbank works using a voucher referral system. In order to get help from our foodbank, you will need a voucher issued by local agencies. You can find an agency list, as well as the locations of the distribution centres on our website: shepway.foodbank.org.uk or call 07913 573403.

What happens next?

Your Foodbank voucher will be exchanged for emergency food for three days.
We want to make sure that we give you the right food to meet your needs, so please do let our volunteers know if you have any special dietary requirements or allergies and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Whilst your food parcel is being prepared, a volunteer will offer you a small refreshment. They will also be available if you would like to have a chat. Your food parcel will be packed into supermarket carrier bags. If you prefer to bring your own bags those can be used instead.

Foodbank volunteers take the time to listen and support you. They are specially trained to know about local services and offer practical guidance so that you have access to the right support, helping you to break out of crisis.

Anyone can reach crisis point. We’re here to help.

Can you help?

Over 90% of the food we distribute is donated by the public – that’s why your food donations are absolutely vital to our ability to give everyone referred to us a balanced and nutritious three-day supply of food.

You can give to the Shepway Foodbank through the following collection point:

  • Rainbow Shop, 366 Cheriton Road, Folkestone, CT19 4DX.
  • Monday to Saturday 9am – 5pm

Please visit our website at shepway.foodbank.org.uk to find out what foodstuffs we would like to receive and to find out where our other collection points are located.

The Shepway Foodbank is run by local people for local people – we rely on the community’s support to ensure we can continue to stop people going hungry. Can you invest in the future of our project and help us provide much-needed support to people in crisis in our community?

If you can donate money or time, please call the Rainbow Centre on 01303 850733 to discuss ways in which you can help.

“The volunteers were fantastic, offering a chat and a shoulder to cry on. I suffer from depression as well and without the Foodbank I don’t think I would be here today.”Richard

“The emotional support was almost as good as the food. It was just such a relief to finally speak to someone who cared and genuinely wanted to help. They gave us hope.”Suzanne
